Bangkok’s ‘Mexican’ Gangsters

Bangkok’s ‘Mexican’ Gangsters are not the only example of cultural appropiation. Worldwide there are many cases like these, in which a group of people of a culture (Subculture) appropriating traditions, rules, clothing, and etc belonging to other cultures. The case of cultural appropiation is they do not know the meaning or they do not have similar behaviors. This is the case of Bangkok’s ‘Mexican’ Gangsters. They are not violent group like the Real Mexicans or have similar attitudes. They just use clothing and accessories like the real group. In my opinion this group appropriates these details because they think they look cool. They want to appreciate their aesthetic. In Barranquilla is called "Farandulero".

  1. Hi Wendy, it is true that there are many groups or subculture in the world, and I think they do not only fashion but also that people in some situations want to be accepted in society and people decide to change appearance.
